This design was inspired by the fantastical stories in Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities. The stories are told by Marco Polo, as he is describing to the Kublai Kahn, the different cities that make up his empire. The design is purely typographic, using the counters of letters to create the main spreads. They resemble the aerial view of a city map. As Calvino describes each city, his words create incredibly, imaginative ideas of what makes a city. Allowing the reader to develop their own interpretation of what each city looks like.
